School in Leatherhead

Through our programme, you will work as an IT Support Assistant as part of the school support workforce. You will work on-site providing technical support and advice to students and teaching staff.

Weekly wage: £99.00

Working week: 30 hours per week

Apprenticeship duration: 60 weeks 7 half terms

You will be part of the School IT Team and provide technical support to students and teaching staff. Day-to-day you will perform routine ICT tasks and contribute to the smooth running of the IT network.

At the end of your apprenticeship you will of achieve the nationally recognised ITQ qualification, as well as valuable work experience, that will provide you with the best chance possible of being offered a full-time role within the school or any organisation requiring IT support. A newly qualified IT Technician can earn between £18,000 and £22,000 per annum.

Below is a summary of your key roles and responsibilities:

· Provide technical support and advice to students and teaching staff

· Perform routine ICT tasks

· Manage small projects

· Facilitate the smooth running of the network by undertaking reasonable tasks as required, including some administrative tasks

· Support the school’s Internet, Email and Virtual Learning Environment

· Support the day-to-day running of the curriculum/admin network in collaboration with the Network Manager

· Provide support and maintenance for network hardware and software, including classroom support

· Provide technical support for curriculum and school events

· Support staff in the use of ICT equipment.

· Report faults to the Network Manager as required.

· Support in-house training as and when required.

· Attend meetings as and when required.

· Be aware of and comply with the policies and procedures relating to child protection, equality and diversity, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills:

· Willing and able to complete all learning and assessment requirements of the relevant framework.

· Able to establish good working relationships with staff, pupils parents and outside agencies.

Qualifications required:

· GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths or equivalent.

Future prospects:

· Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

· Full-time employment within the organisation

Things to consider:

· Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check performed by the Employer/school

· Ability to travel to work

IT Apprenticeship Level 4 - Technology Apprentice


World's leading port information publisher are looking to recruit a Technology Apprentice in their friendly offices in Reigate.

Duties mainly concern systems management, project management, helpdesk and website management.

This post is part of the National Apprenticeship Scheme and is offered in conjunction with NESCOT to offer a structured training and development programme to the successful candidate.

The course to be followed will be a 2 year HNC/HND scheme, involving 2 days in college each week alongside 3 days working in our exciting publishing technology environment.

The work will provide plenty of challenging opportunities for skills development, including programming, app development, data publishing and tech problem solving.

Recruitment will be by means of interview at the Company’s Reigate offices, which may also include assessment tests.

Job Description

Duties mainly concern systems management, project management, helpdesk and website management.

Technology Apprentices provide assistance in all technology related areas of our publishing processes. They support senior staff in the commissioning, testing and deployment of hardware, software and data updates.

Technology Apprentices perform a range of administrative and technological tasks necessary to ensure products and publications are published to deadline.

Key activities will include:

  • copy-editing content into websites;
  • updating website functionality;
  • assisting with functional data recovery, including data backup and hardware redundancy;
  • testing software functionality before deployment;
  • assisting with project management of a variety of software development projects;
  • deployment and updating of hardware and software at both system and desktop level;
  • researching possible solutions to technology problems;
  • attending and contributing to team meetings;
  • liaising with other staff with regard to content, updates, schedules, deadlines, etc;
  • training and instructing staff in the use of new technology deployments;
  • organising and ensuring your projects meet tight deadlines;
  • using computers for software development, project tracking, internal and external communications;
  • dealing with phone and email queries, e.g. from both external and internal software users;
  • archiving and filing;
  • filing, photocopying and other routine administrative tasks.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be:

  • a confident technologist
  • capable of managing their own time, ensuring work is completed to deadline;
  • personable individual;
  • a committed and willing learner looking to develop new skills and expertise.

Experience and Skills

It would be useful for candidates to have at least some of the following skills and experience:

  • Editing and contributing content in an internet environment
  • A strong understanding of html or xml tagging
  • Experience deploying or using Content Management Systems
  • Coding experience in any language
  • Developing innovative solutions for everyday problems

While hardware experience and knowledge would be a definite asset, it must be stressed that this is primarily a software focussed post.

This position will be within the National Apprenticeship Scheme and will require part-time attendance at NESCOT in Epsom following an approved course of study.
