Learners in Care and Social Services

In care or a care leaver?

Nescot provides additional support to Looked-After young people and Care Leavers. We will work with Children’s Schools and Families Teams to ensure that you are supported to participate and be successful in education.

This year we have helped students to:

  • make their application and get enrolled
  • buy college equipment
  • go on trips
  • fund travel expenses
  • careers advice and university applications
  • get an apprenticeship

We have also helped students with practical things like:

  • Accommodation arrangements
  • Financial help in emergencies
  • Making use of other services
  • Support with making decisions

We understand that there are a lot of pressures on you, and our team are here to help you get the most from your time at college - if something is getting in the way of you being able to come to college and get on with your studies and your life, we will try to help you sort it out.

Social worker or key worker?

We work closely with Local Authorities and other external agencies to support vulnerable groups of students. We provide:

  • a central point of contact for information
  • input at PEP meetings, LAC reviews and case conferences
  • progress reports
