Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people aged 16 or above, looking for on the job training and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace.
The Level 2 Diploma is aimed at those who support and assist individuals with their physical or emotional care, daily living needs or maintaining their independence. It is extremely relevant for home care assistants, community support assistants, healthcare assistants and residential or day service assistants.
An Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care will develop your employability skills and give you the qualifications needed. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.
Where possible staff from College Apprenticeship Team will help you find an employer and place of work (although students who are already employed are welcome to apply if sponsored by their employer). Your offer of Apprenticeship training will be dependent on work places being available.

Course Details
To gain the full apprenticeship you will work towards the following qualifications:
Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
Functional Skills Mathematics Level 1
Functional Skills English Level 1
Level 2 Award in Employment Rights and Responsibilities
The Diploma in Health and Social Care is work-related and will relate specifically to your job role.
NB: If you are employed in the social sector, the four core units are mandatory. If you are employed in the health care sector you may take two core units, two optional units and a further two units from either the core or optional groups.
The Mandatory units include:
o Communicate with and complete records for individuals
o Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals
o Develop your knowledge and practice
o Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals.
Examples of optional units include:
o Support individuals in their daily living
o Prepare food and drink for individuals
o Support individuals with their personal care needs
o Assist in the administration of medication
o Contribute to effective group care
o Contribute to moving and handling individuals
You will be expected to attend a number of workshops to help to build your knowledge.
Course Assessment:
You will be continually assessed throughout your training both at college and within the workplace. You will also take examinations for Key Skills (if required). Your
progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set, to ensure you complete your apprenticeship on time.

Entry RequirementsGCSE grades A*-C in English and Maths an advantage otherwise minimum Entry Level 3 at initial assessment in English and Maths are required. You will need to demonstrate an interest in Health and Social Care. All applicants for Apprenticeship training will be required to attend an interview and undertake initial assessments to confirm this.

3 Interview:
We will write to you with a date and time to attend an information session where the course is discussed further. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions about
your course and discuss your plans for the future. You will also undertake Basic Skills assessments in Literacy and Numeracy.
4 On Course?:
After your interview we will write to you. If your application is successful, we will offer you a provisional place. If we are
unable to offer you a place, we can advise you on an alternative course of action
5 Induction:
You will be invited to come into College for a day for an induction and to enrol. As we have a number of intakes during the year you will be placed on the next available one.
