Business & Accounting

Our Business Department is one of the longest established in the area and has developed close links with local firms. Working closely with industry increases the relevance of your course to your career by matching theory with real-life models. We are committed to teaching you, not just about business, but how to have a successful business career. We treat our students as adults and you will find yourself taking responsibility and pride in your assignments, behaviour and professional conduct and appearance. You will not only learn the rules and skills of the business world, but will be given the tools to transform yourself from a student into a professional.

Our Staff

In keeping with our belief in teaching for real life, our staff bring excellent industry experience to the classroom. You will be taught how to breathe life into a company by people who have worked for some of the most prestigious City firms like Coopers Lybrand, set up and run their own successful businesses or have harnessed the power of new technology for profit. We come from a variety of backgrounds but have one thing in common – we’re committed to turning you into the business professionals of the future.

Working with Other Departments and Organisations

Working closely with the Computing and IT Departments means you will learn on the most current software and gives a professional polish to your computer work. The two departments are so close we even share lectures and some of our exciting trips and excursions. Computing students can see how business users work with their technology and you will have a deeper understanding of one of your most important business tools.

Our department has also fostered such good links with the business community that you will enjoy many excursions, talks and presentations from top-flight industry experts in organisations such as The Bank of Scotland and the Bank of England.

Our good relations with the community mean that every one of our students can research, target, apply for, and spend at least a week doing meaningful work experience in any area they find exciting and relevant.

Our Facilities

The Department is composed of excellent teaching rooms and IT suites where you will be taught the latest software and presentation techniques.
