Beauty & Hair
Our two new hairdressing salons are stylishly kitted out each with 16 styling stations and brand new professional equipment.
You will train in one of our on-site salons, where clients will come and pay for treatments with you, you will work in partnership with our staff to develop the highest levels of expertise.
The staff have experience ranging from working as therapists on first-class airlines and cruise ships, to senior level practitioners in the country’s top salons and, due to the practical nature of this course, you will develop a real relationship with them.
One of the things our department is most proud of is that the majority of our students progress through to the highest levels here at Nescot. For example the majority of our Level 2 students will be starting the Level 3 course in September. We believe this is down to the way we teach our courses. We get to know you so our teaching fits your personality. Whether you are a star pupil or have struggled in the past, Nescot can give you the skills you need to become a top-flight beauty expert or hairdresser.
The department has three professional beauty therapy salons where you will use our professional facial, body and electrical equipment to treat members of the public.
We also have a new, purpose-built hairdressing salon where students learn cutting, styling and colouring before progressing to work experience with paying clients.
The department is also a licensed supplier of MATIS products.
Links with Other Organisations
Throughout our history, the department has built strong links with the types of companies you may want to work with. You will meet organisations such as global spa industry leaders Steiner, Clarins, Elemis here at the college, to bring that dream job within your reach. We also invite famous beauty names such as Fake Bake and MATIS to give you workshops and masterclasses in how to use their products.

So whether it’s higher education or the glamour of the international beauty industry, the Beauty Department at Nescot can take you where you want to go.

The best thing about studying beauty at Nescot is that it's a really practical course. You get taught the theory of how to do a treatment, but then there's a lot of opportunities to practice until you're confident.
This year I've really enjoyed learning about waxing and manicures and pedicures. Next year I'm staying on at Nescot to do my Level 3, so hopefully I'll be able to work in the beauty salon here at college. I'm looking forward to learning about hot stone massages and Indian head massage. I've heard the Level 3 course is really interesting.
Nescot is a great college and I like the campus. The tutors are very helpful to the students, and they always have time for anyone who's struggling. I also go to the Learning Resource Centre a lot to use the computers, to research something or to work on a project in the quiet areas. The staff are brilliant and they can always help you with whatever you need.
Before I came to Nescot I thought that when I finished my course I'd go and work in a beauty salon. This year we've learnt a lot about business, and I've realised there are other options. I've decided I want to set up a salon of my own one day, so when I finish at Nescot I'm going to go and study business at university.

- Level 2 City & Guilds NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
When I finished school I stayed on for a year doing A-Levels, but it wasn't for me. There a few colleges I could have gone to, but I wanted to come to Nescot because it has the best reputation. I'm very glad I came here and I've really enjoyed my course.
The best part of the course so far for me has been the shows we've done. The department does a lot of shows to get us used to working on our own under pressure, and being as creative as we want. The hairdresser Adam Reed came to Nescot this year to give a demonstration, and it was amazing watching him. He then chose me and another student to assist his team at London Fashion Week. It was incredible, I never thought I'd be able to do something like that.
At college you're treated very differently to how you are at school. The staff treat you like an adult and expect more from you, but I think that is a good thing. The hairdressing facilities are great and I like the college – sometimes it's the little things, like having a Starbucks on the campus. I've been a course representative on Student Voice, but there wasn't anything we wanted to change about the course because we all enjoy it so much. I'd definitely recommend Hairdressing and Nescot to anyone.
