Print Share Ask a questionThe OCR Diploma in IT is designed to give students the skills and knowledge they need to gain employment in the IT Sector or move on to further study of Computing at a higher level. There are two distinct pathways – software and hardware - you could follow on this diploma course, depending on interview, experience and assessment.
The course will involve visits to networking and software development events.
New Students
Five GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including maths and English. We also require a good reference from your school alongside your application.*
Progressing students
Level 2 Diploma at Merit plus English and maths. A satisfactory reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.
*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required
On successful completion of a BTEC National qualification, a learner can progress to or within employment and/or continue their study in the same or related vocational area.
Career options include Business, Information Systems or Database Management. Further education and training is available at Nescot, either on the HND in Computing or professional courses including CISCO and Oracle.

In the first term all students will study 3 core units to give you an understanding of Global Information, IT fundamentals and Digital Marketing, which are useful for all career pathways
At the end of the first term, students will then be placed onto one of two pathways leading to careers in different industry areas, depending on interest, aptitude and ability.
In the second term, some students will go on to study on the Digital Technician Pathway, which will involve the below:
In the third term you will be allocated an Industry Placement for 9 weeks. This will be at a company relevant to your chosen pathway.

In the second year you will study the following units:
A work placements is part of this course, you are required to undertake an Industry Placement of 315 hours with an external employer relevant to the course you are studying. You will be encouraged to source your own placement with support from the work placement team and your tutor. Work placements often lead onto offer of an apprenticeship or paid employment once you have completed your course.
