Creative Media (Film and Broadcasting): Level 3 Extended Diploma

Course Summary

Our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media (Film & Broadcasting) course has been designed to reflect industry, and as such you will develop your creative, technical and organisational skills across a number of media sectors. Using industry standard software and equipment, working individually and in teams, you will complete a diverse range of projects that will stand you in good stead for either full-time employment or a route into Higher Education.

New Students

4 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including English.*

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

Progressing students

Level 2 Diploma (Merit) with a satisfactory reference for attitude, behavior, attendance and punctuality.

Following your interview you will also be required to submit:

  • A 750-word personal statement on why you wish to study Level 3 Creative Media.

Additional Costs:

Students will need a starter pack for £35 and a range of visits will be arranged and will cost in total for the year approximately £82.

Practical projects include music videos, short films, documentaries, showreels and advertisements, supported by more theory-based assignments that cover subjects such as scriptwriting, film studies and industry related topics. These projects are undertaken via a mixture of group work and individual tasks. All creative industries rely heavily on successful communication and the importance of solid literacy and numeracy skills are reinforced throughout the course.

All of the teaching staff at NESCOT have excellent industry experience on a variety of productions. This experience ensures that the teaching that you receive is vocational, current and relevant. This teaching is supported by a number of guest lecturers from media organisations and from technical crew such as producers, camera operators and directors.

The success of our students speaks for itself. In the past seven years our students won three golds, three silvers and a bronze in the UK World Skills Moving Image competition. We will encourage you to enter competitions and seek work experience beyond your college course. In previous years our students have worked on various feature films, TV shows, music videos and corporate films. Many of our students progress to Higher Education, either at Nescot on our HND Creative Media course, or they secure places at some of the top universities in the country, progressing to study a diverse range of exciting subjects.

Assessment:

Assessment is by coursework. Grades awarded are at a pass, merit or distinction level.

Work Experience is a part of this course, the hours and dates will be determined by the course tutor. Work experience can be up to a maximum of two weeks on an external placement, you are encouraged to source your own placement with support from the WEX Team and your course tutor. Where external placements are not possible you will be expected to take part in simulated work experience organised by the college.
