The full time Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science course at Nescot is a two year course aimed at students with an interest in the application of scientific principles to the promotion, maintenance and enhancement of sport and exercise related performance.

The course contains a mixture of theoretical lessons in classrooms and science laboratories and practical sessions in the sports hall, fitness centre, college fields and local sports centres.

Sport and Exercise Science: Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma

Course Details

Throughout the course students will undertake scientific units including biomechanics, applied sport and exercise physiology as well as writing their own ‘research project’. These units will be combined with fitness testing, fitness for training and other sports science related subjects. Learning will take place through lectures, group work, debates, group discussions and practical sports sessions.

The units are selected from the list below and staff aim to ensure they maximise students’ chances of either gaining employment in the health and fitness industry in the future or progressing to University to typically study sports science, physiotherapy on other related degrees. Recent students from the sports department have gained places at Portsmouth, Bournemouth, St Mary’s and Bath University amongst others.

To prepare students for the industry a host of additional qualifications are undertaken throughout the 2 years of this course including CYQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing, sports coaching qualifications , first aid qualification and other industry led courses.

You will require 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and Science or P.E. Students who have gained a Level 2 Diploma in Sport at Distinction grade may also apply

Course Fees

You will be provided with all the basic resources and materials needed for your programme. Some additional fees are required to cover the costs of trips to outdoor activity centres and activities required to take place to gain the criteria to pass this course.

You will have to pay for the following:
