This course enables students to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills that enable progression within specific areas of employment such as exercise and fitness, leadership support and sports coaching.

Students completing these qualifications may seek employment within the sport sector at a junior level in a range of roles including recreation assistant or sports leader/sports coaches.
The BTEC Diploma in Sport provides opportunities for learners to focus on the development of personal, learning and thinking skills, functional skills, and wider skills in a sport context, such as environmental issues and health and safety considerations.

Course Details

Our course is structured to ensure a mixture of theory and practical units. Additional qualifications can be taken in First Aid and coaching qualifications to aid future employment opportunities and career progression in the fitness and sports coaching industries.

This course is aimed at students with an interest in sport and who want to gain a qualification to enter employment within the sport or the fitness industries or progress onto the Level 3 Diploma Sport course or Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport course.

The course is made up of 7 units from the following:

  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Psychology for Sports Performance
  • Work Experience in Sport
  • Planning and Running a Sports Event
  • Sports Injuries

You require 4 GCSEs at grade D. Students who have gained a Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure may also apply

Course Fees

You will be provided with all the basic resources and materials needed for your programme. Some additional fees are required to cover costs of trips and activities required to take place to gain criteria to pass this course.

You will have to pay for the following:
•    Sports department kit
•    First Aid qualification
•    Additional coaching qualification fees

Please contact the Student Finance Office to find out if you qualify for Financial Support.

Students are assessed in sports coaching, fitness instructing and sports therapy with all age groups and abilities in your community. We work with disabled groups, schools and the elderly as well as athletes to give you a full view of opportunities in sport and gain valuable experience to aid employment opportunities.
