Beauty students enjoyed a trip to an exclusive trade fair in London’s Olympia exhibition centre on Monday 21st of September where they had the opportunity to see the newest products and techniques to wow the industry. Students were surprised at just how busy the fair was, with crowds thronging round the stalls of over 250 industry exhibitors. Many said that after the trip they had gained a new understanding of the scale of the beauty and cosmetics industry.
Emily White, 17, who came to Nescot from Carshalton Girls School, found the professionals very welcoming when talking to students. ‘ I did manage to speak to quite a few of the people on the stands, mainly about nails, makeup and tanning and it gave me an insight into just how big the industry is. I also got some good deals like a tan treatment and loads of makeup and brushes,’ she said.
Jayne Livingston, the Level 2 group’s tutor was also pleased with the trip, ‘Cost permitting, we try and do this every year to give the students an insight into the industry as a whole. Some years are better than others but I think they get a lot out of it,’ she said. Amy Houghton, 17, from Tolworth Girls School, agreed but thought the exhibition would have been improved by more demonstrations. ‘Personally, I would have liked to have seen more things like makeup training courses and some of the bigger names like Mac cosmetics,’ she said.
