Nescot College’s Travel and Tourism department have set up an innovative partnership with national hotel chain Travelodge to match students’ learning with the skills employers want.
HND students will not only have the opportunity to experience work placements with the group but will be set industry standard projects, such as designing a new Travelodge for the 2012 Olympics. They will also be able to partner teams within the Travelodge organisation, matching the requirements of their course modules, to gain a full understanding of the demands of each component of a complex hospitality operation.
Travelodge, which was the first budget brand hotel to launch in the UK in 1985 and now operates 380 hotels in Ireland, Spain and the UK, will also run Recruitment and Selection workshops and interview training for the students, ensuring they leave their course fully prepared for the reality of their chosen career.
Students are already benefiting from the partnership, as Nescot lecturers have been busy learning more about the Travelodge business to update their understanding of this fast-moving market. Learners will soon be taking further advantage of the fantastic offer as the first round of industry placements come along.
The partnership comes at an exciting time, as this year’s HND students will be observing the company as it launches its campaign to become the biggest hotel operator in London for the 2012 Olympic Games. With over six and a half million people staying with Travelodge last year and big expansion plans already underway, Nescot students will gain vital insight into a company operating at the top of its game.
Travel and Tourism head Neil Barnett said, ‘The department is delighted to have secured such a wonderful opportunity for the students and we cannot praise Travelodge enough for their commitment to the future of the industry.’
