Celebrations as Nescot’s first group of adult students have successfully completed the BTEC Level 2, Work Skills Certificate. The course provides students with the skills and confidence to get their first job, return to work or protect themselves from the threat of redundancy.
To mark their success the Work Skills students were invited to a lunch held at Nescot on Friday 27th November, with certificates presented by Paul Wilson, Nescot Director of Adult Responsiveness.
Work Skills is part of a range of courses delivered by Nescot in partnership with Job Centre Plus, Epsom. The course aims to provide a qualification, along with transferable skills to prepare individuals who were looking for work.
This group of successful students consisted of a wide range of ages and backgrounds and their reasons for needing to study varied greatly. Some already had skills and experience but didn’t have the qualifications recognised by employers, whilst others were returning to work and needed to refresh and update their knowledge in order to make them competitive against other job applicants.
Students cited that the course involved a variety of modules and teaching staff, which meant that it never got dull. They also said the role-playing and interview practice created a fun element to learning. As well as interview techniques, students also conducted research into the companies that they were applying for, which gave them an insight into the questions to expect and to ask during interview.
The BTEC Level 2, Work Skills Certificate last for 6 weeks, which includes the following units: Searching for a Job /
Applying for a Job / Preparing for an Interview / Interview Skills / Building Working Relationships with Colleagues / Building Working Relationships with Customers / Investigating rights and responsibilities at Work / Contributing to meetings.
