Nescot’s Foundation Learning students had a day to celebrate on Wednesday when they took part in The Jim Green Memorial Competition organised by the South of England Agricultural Society.
Two groups of students from Land-Based Studies and Arts & Media competed against students from other Land-based colleges in a variety of creative and knowledge tasks, some completed before the day of the competition and bought along for the judges to scrutinise.
Tasks included making a classic Quiche Lorraine, identifying a range of sugars, bean and pulses (and answering questions on each), and the preparation and planting of a flower bed of Spring bulbs.
"Congratulations, the flower bed looks lovely and will continue to look lovely – well done!” was one of the judge’s comments.
After a hard morning’s work, the Nescot students emerged victorious in four categories, winning two practical tasks, the Jim Green Memorial Trophy and the Jim Green Trophy (ex-YFC).
The delighted students also returned home the overall best in competition winners and the title of 2010 Overall Winners.
