Nescot celebrated elements winning Best Small Employer at The South East Learning and Skills Awards 2010 on Thursday 20th May. The awards ceremony took place at the Savill Court Hotel in Surrey and was hosted by Sky News Sunrise presenter, Charlotte Hawkins. Nescot has worked in partnership with elements to deliver apprenticeship training in their Oxted based hair salon and decided to nominate them as Best Small Employer due to their inspirational training techniques and ethos.
elements has been trading for 27 years and sees apprentices as the key to its continued success, with ten of their fifteen stylists successfully completing apprenticeships with the company. elements works alongside Nescot’s established Hair and Beauty department to help students with the work-based experience, vital for the completion of their apprenticeship framework and aimed at continuing their development whilst they study.
Speaking at the awards, elements owner Barbara McNaughton said, “We are so honoured to be here in such fantastic company. This award is an amazing recognition of the passion, focus and vision of our team at elements. We are so immensely grateful to be ex-apprentices who are now able to train and inspire a new generation of apprentices, who will in the future shape our business and our industry.” elements will hopefully be selected to go forward to the national awards, taking place in central London on the 15th July, where they will be representing the South East in the Best Small Employer category.
Nescot advanced apprentice Zoe Watson and local employer Harris Brothers have also been nominated for the apprenticeship regional awards category for London, the awards evening for which takes place on the 3rd June 2010 at Madame Tussauds. If successful, they may go through to the national awards in July.
