Nescot computing student Paul Tan was honoured at the annual WorldSkills UK Competition Awards on Thursday 4th November in recognition of his success at winning a gold medal in the WorldSkills UK 2010 National Microsoft Office Applications competition earlier this year.
Celebrity Chef, Brian Turner CBE, hosted the ceremony at the IMAX Cinema in London where over 100 people were presented with the prestigious Gold Award. The event is held annually to recognise and celebrate the accomplishments of gold medal winners at all WorldSkills UK National competitions. The competition comprises more than 50 skill areas which test competitor’s knowledge and practical application against current industry benchmarks. The event also included an exhibition which featured some of the outstanding work created by Gold Award winners for guests to admire.
Brian Turner CBE, a board member of UK Skills, the organisation which manages WorldSkills UK, said: “Each and every one of this year’s competitors are shining examples of the fantastic achievements that can be made through a dedication to training. Winning a Gold Award at a national level in any WorldSkills UK competition is a huge achievement and one which all competitors should be very proud of.”
