18/02/2010Stars Shine Bright at Nescot
Over 30 of Nescot’s top learners received awards at a glittering ceremony at Epsom Downs Race Course on Friday night.
The award winners and their guests enjoyed a review of the year by their Heads of Faculty and each prize-winner was warmly applauded.
The awards were presented by Peter Martin, Surrey County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Learning, who acknowledged the quality of the education provided by Nescot – and the outstanding achievements of the award winning learners.
The NCFE Learner of the Year prize was won by Delva Taylor, who is currently studying her fourth distance learning course with the College having suffered some major health setbacks. Her commendation acknowledged her commitment to keeping abreast of developments in her professional field in difficult circumstances.
The Governors’ Prize for Citizenship was awarded to a surprised Amadou Bah, who thought he was at the event to give the vote of thanks. The Chairman of Governors, Guy Parsons, explained how impressed the Governors were by Amadou’s passionate representation of his course-mates at local level – and his Chairmanship of the National Learner Panel.
Rebecca Eveleigh was the worthy winner of the Principal’s Prize. A (slightly) mature student on the Media ND course, Rebecca is showing outstanding potential to be very successful in her chosen field.
