Nescot IT student chosen to be a Young Ambassador

When Charlie Dowler saw the invitation to apply to become a Youth Ambassador for InspirEngage Social Enterprise he knew he had found a volunteering opportunity that matched he talents and interests.

A talented web designer/developer studying Level 3 IT, Charlie’s motto - “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new” has strong synchronicity with the ethos of the InspirEngage founder, Melody Hossaini.

Melody set up InspirEngage in 2009 and it is now one of the world’s leading organisations in skills training and youth engagement, engaging with over 1 million people in less than 3 years, in over 100 countries. Passionate about supporting young people to fulfil their potential, they visit schools, colleges, universities and other institutions nation-wide, delivering innovative ‘InspirEngage Skills Bootcamps’ and Enterprise Challenges– supporting young people to develop Life Skills to feel more Confident, Work ready and Enterprising.

Charlie was one of 200 applicants which shortlisted to 29. He then took a phone interview with Melody herself and is now one of 15 Young Ambassadors. Being a Young Ambassador will give Charlie an 18 month opportunity learning firsthand what it’s like within a global social enterprise, as well as contributing his skills towards the core purpose of the organisation.

Charlie was invited to meet Melody at the Youth Enterprise Live event in London Earls Court on Friday 12th October 2012. This was an exciting experience for Charlie who manned her stall, giving out excellent advice to visitors who were interested in her programs. Charlie was also tweeting and engaging with members of the public and updating what was happening at the event in real time.

Sage Lal Head of Computing says: “Every college should find ways of inspiring and engaging their students and the services offered by Melody Hossaini allows students to excel in areas that they never thought possible.  We look forward to Melody visiting Nescot as a guest speaker”
