Adam Reed is well known in the hairdressing industry for styling the hair of many of the best known stars including, amongst a host of others, Noel Gallagher, Ellie Golding, Lady Gaga. He is also known for his television and film work, including the ‘X factor’ and ‘Sex in the City’ – and last year Adam inspired our Nescot hairdressing students when he told them about the amazing opportunities that he has experienced in his career.
Adam offered two students the opportunity to work with him at the ‘London Fashion Week’ in February 2013. This unbelievable opportunity has enabled two students, Lizzie Roberts and Louise Bushnell, to help Adam and Paul Percival (Adam’s business partner) in styling models’ hair for the launch of the ‘House of Holland’ 2013 Collection.
Henry Holland is one of the UK’s leading fashion designers. The Guardian newspaper quoted that his first designs “became so popular that he diversified and founded his own label, House of Holland, now stocked in Harrods, Barneys in New York and worn by celebrities including Lindsay Lohan, Jaime Winstone, the singer M.I.A. and Holland's best friend, supermodel Agyness Deyn’.
Adam looked after the students fantastically, allowing them to have a real taste of the fashion industry up close. Louise and Lizzie were blown away by the experience, and Louise said ‘It was amazing, we had such a great time, we got to speak to so many people, we were working on the models and everything... it has made me want to do this more as a career. We got given Percy and Reed products to take home and 2 sets of styling tongs that they used on the models. People from magazines got speaking to us and took pictures of me and Lizzie working with the models and Adam. Such an epic experience! Would love to do it again any time! . We went home very very happy.”
Teacher Lucy Mason is thrilled that her students have got so much from Adam’s input. “As a teacher organising this event it has been so special and encouraging to see students being so inspired. I feel lucky to work with people like Adam Reed, and so appreciate his time and energy to help and inspire those who are just starting out in their career.” said Lucy.
