Nescot and Cheam school raise £1,500 for Sport Relief

A Nescot Sports student has worked with a Cheam school to raise £1,524 for Sport Relief.

Harry Young, 17 and from Carshalton, visited Cheam Park Farm Infants School on Molesey Drive on March 20 and held a day of circuit training with almost 300 children in Reception and Years 1 and 2.

"I’m really proud with how much we raised," said Harry, who is in his second year of the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport Development, Coaching & Fitness.

"I hoped we would manage to raise a lot of money, but I didn’t think it would be this much. The school and the college were both really supportive, so that made it easier."

Harry, who went to Cheam Park Farm Infant and then Junior schools and works at David Lloyd in Cheam, organised the event for a unit on his course which requires him to hold a sport event.

He set up six stations where the five, six and seven-year-olds did activities including skipping with a rope, star jumps, bouncing a ball and doing shuttle runs.

"The children worked really hard, and some of the teachers got involved in the circuits too," Harry added.

"As well as the money we raised, I think I learnt a lot from the experience and hopefully the children had fun."

Neil Barnett, head of Sport and Uniformed Public Services at Nescot, said: "Harry’s done a great job, and we’re really proud of his hard work and grateful to all the children, staff and parents at Cheam Park Farm."

Heather Young, Assistant Head at Cheam Park Farm, said the event had set a new Sport Relief fundraising record for the school.

She added: "It was lovely to have Harry back at the school. He was very organised and very good with the children.

"The children really enjoyed themselves, and we were all very happy to be raising money for such a great cause."

Nescot students have raised a further £300 from activities including cake sales, fancy dress, a raffle and a sponsored walk.
