Hairdressing students have been raising money for Shelter by offering a hairstyling service in exchange for donations to the homeless charity.
Customers were welcomed in to the salon without an appointment all day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, and students gave them hair ups as well as tips for caring for and styling their hair at home.
Shelter gives free, confidential advice and support to people who are homeless or facing homelessness, as well as campaigning on housing issues and offering training on housing and welfare law.
Section leader Lisa Charles said donations are still being counted, but that the department had chosen Shelter because of the charity’s work supporting families facing Christmas homeless.
She added: “We’re really grateful to all our customers for supporting our initiative, and we’re also proud of the high quality of work the students have produced.”
