National Apprenticeship Week 2015 will see Nescot hosting a range of events aimed at celebrating and promoting apprenticeships.
This year the week begins on Monday March 9, and staff have organised events tailored to schoolchildren, business leaders, parents and current students to ensure everyone can get involved.
"There can be a lot of misconceptions about apprenticeships, so we wanted to provide an opportunity for people to find out as much as possible," said Joe Ballantine, Head of Apprenticeships at Nescot.
"For example, some people think you can only do an apprenticeship in construction or hairdressing, but Nescot also offers apprenticeships in subjects like accounting, computing and team leading.
"We also offer Higher Apprenticeships, which are equivalent to university-level study, and we’re glad to see people starting to see that apprenticeships can be a great alternative to a degree."
You can see which apprenticeships Nescot offers online here.
A 'meet the employers' event is being held on the Tuesday, with pupils in years 9, 10 and 11 invited in to chat to business owners and apprentices in sectors including management, childcare and animal care.
The event is designed to help young people find out more about what apprenticeships are and what they could study and achieve, so that they have the right information to make decisions about their future.
On Wednesday the college is holding an open evening from 5.30-8pm, where people of all ages can visit the college to have a look around, find out more about Nescot’s courses and apply.
Friday will see a business breakfast, with employers from across the area invited to the college for an early-morning networking meeting, with tea, coffee, bacon rolls and pastries.
Speakers including staff from the Institute of Leadership and Management will give short talks, and participants will also be able to find out more about how Nescot’s REED NCFE Centre can help employers.
Advisors from Nescot’s apprenticeship team will have a stand opposite Seasons Café at lunchtimes all week.
