Soup kitchen at Nescot raises £110 for Epsom and Ewell Foodbank

Nescot students and staff raised £110 for charity on Monday (October 19), with a soup kitchen timed to coincide with World Food Day.

Students in the college’s Preparation for Life and Work department served flavours including Indian chickpea, leek and potato and carrot and coriander  to more than 40 customers at Seasons Café from 12-1pm.

The money raised will be used to buy much-needed items for Epsom and Ewell Foodbank, and the donations will be presented after half term.

“We’re really pleased with how much we raised,” said tutor Natasha Persad. “The students worked really hard to get the soup kitchen ready, and we’re grateful to everyone who supported us.”

Seasons Café will be open for business from 12-1pm on Mondays and Wednesdays as of November 9.

Care professionals such as GPs, health visitors and police and probation officers issue vouchers for food banks to people experiencing crisis.

Food banks can issue emergency rations, as well as providing a hot meal and referring people to agencies to help them with any longer-term issues.

Epsom and Ewell Foodbank needs donations of items including tinned vegetables, nappies, laundry tablets, dried milk and toothbrushes.
