This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the roles and functions of a team leader. The programme will help students to develop the skills they need to support effective teamwork, deal with challenges within a team, and maintain a harmonious working environment. Team working is fundamental to the success of any organisation. As well as providing students with a nationally recognised qualification, this course will introduce them to the key areas concerned with effective team leading, such as supporting the development of team members; objective setting, communication and motivation; and maintaining the health, safety and security of themselves and their team. In addition, students will be able to increase their knowledge and understanding of procurement, customer service and information management. They will also look at topics surrounding equality and diversity and related legislation. The course has a credit value of 16 on the Qualifications Credit Framework.
Candidates work through the course materials for the programme at times convenient to them, so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience. Students should aim to complete the course within 12 weeks.
