The programme is designed to provide an understanding of the emotive issues surrounding death and dying. It will help learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of palliative care and its place within end of life care, along with the support services available to the individual and others.

This course is designed for any health or social care worker who wishes to improve their knowledge and understanding of end of life care. It also has relevance to all types of care settings, including hospices, care homes, care in the community and primary care.
The course will cover the following areas and consists of two workbooks and two assessments:
The course has a credit value of 16 on the Qualifications Credit Framework.
Candidates work through the course materials for the programme at times
convenient to them, so there is no need to attend the college to gain
the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed
to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to
allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning.
Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned
on the programme and work-based activities and experience. Learners should aim to complete the
course within 16 weeks.

You do not need to have any formal qualifications in order to follow this course, but you will need to demonstrate commitment and motivation to work through the specially prepared distance learning materials.
The qualification aims to provide a sound preparation for further study and access to a range of vocational qualifications, including Diplomas in Health and Social Care.
