Course Summary

Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people aged 16 or above, looking for on the job training and the opportunity to gain nationally-recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace. You will also attend workshops at college for functional skills and to build your knowledge.

From September 2023, this apprenticeship will be delivered at Nescot as part of the Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology

You will need to have achieved GCSEs at grade 9 - 4 (or comparable qualification) in English and maths. Please note, you will also be required to undertake an initial assessment prior to enrolment in order to assess your current level of English and maths. Your interviewer will discuss with you what minimum level you will need to achieve at initial assessment. You must have a suitable employer that meets all requirements.

Whilst your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your Apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess the relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and learn.

To begin this course you must be eligible to work within England or the European Economic Area (EEC) and be employed for a minimum of 30 hours in a relevant job role and be able to attend college on a part-time basis. Your employer must commit to supporting you throughout your apprenticeship and provide on-the-job learning as well as your college based off-the-job learning.

If you do not have an employer to support your apprenticeship the college will support you to find an employer through our dedicated employer support team.

Typical job roles are Digital Marketing Coordinator, Assistant or Executive, Campaign Executive, Social Media Executive, Content Co-ordinator, Email Marketing Assistant, SEO Executive, Analytics Executive, and Digital Marketing Technologist.

A 5% employer contribution fee may be applicable depending on the age of the apprentice and the size of your organisation.

As a Digital Marketing apprentice, you’ll work as part of a team to use online platforms and social media tools to help design, build and implement campaigns to meet your employer’s goals, whether that’s to drive sales, engagement, and/or retention. You’ll work to a brief and report to a Marketing Manager, Digital Marketing Manager, or IT Manager.

You’ll be assessed on your technical knowledge and understanding through modules and specific qualifications, as well as an end-of-course assessment. Modules include:

  • Principles of coding
  • Marketing principles
  • Digital marketing business principles.

You will learn to:

  • Develop and implement digital communications strategies and campaigns
  • Use a variety of digital technologies and tools to achieve marketing objectives.
  • Respond efficiently to enquiries using online and social media platforms
  • Understand and create basic analytical dashboards to measure and evaluate the success of activities
  • Carry out at least two specialist areas of digital marketing, such as search marketing, search engine optimisation, email marketing, web analytics and metrics, apps or pay-per-click
  • Understand and interpret:
    • Latest developments in digital media technologies and trends
    • Marketing briefs and plans
    • Company-defined ‘customer standards’, or industry good practice
    • Company, team or client approaches to continuous integration.

This apprenticeship is recognised for entry on to the Register of IT Technicians, and those completing their apprenticeships are eligible to apply for registration. Completion of the apprenticeship would also allow access to join as an Affiliate (Professional) member of the CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) and/or Associate membership of BCS.


Assessment

You will be continually assessed throughout your training. You will also take examinations for functional skills, if required. Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set.
