The broad purpose of a Digital Support Technician is to maximise the effective use of digital office technologies, productivity software, digital communications, including collaborative technologies, and digital information systems to achieve objectives.

A Digital Service Technician supports the external customers and clients of their organisation though a wide variety of digital channels, to help them access and receive services, to coach and support them in their use of the digital systems; to support them to complete and submit information remotely and to diagnose and resolve their problems in relation to their access to and use of the digital technologies.

From September 2023, this apprenticeship will be delivered at Nescot as part of the Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology

You will need to have achieved GCSEs at grade 9 - 4 (or comparable qualification) in English and maths. Please note, you will also be required to undertake an initial assessment prior to enrolment in order to assess your current level of English and maths. Your interviewer will discuss with you what minimum level you will need to achieve at initial assessment. You must have a suitable employer that meets all requirements.

Whilst your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your Apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess the relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and learn.

Apprenticeships build skills, experience and qualifications to enable you to develop a sustainable career ion your chosen sector. This apprenticeship serves as an introduction to careers in IT systems support, a skilled role required in virtually all sectors in today's economy.

A 5% employer contribution fee may be applicable depending on the age of the apprentice and the size of your organisation.

The Digital Service Technician standard is designed to support a new employee to achieve the level of technical ability and professional skills to be able to fulfil this role.

Apprentices will attend 1 full day of college per month. Lessons take place in a dedicated classroom with relevant software for practical work. In addition, apprentices will be supported online to study web-based training modules and simulation tools.

During the course of the apprenticeship, the practice assessor will meet with the apprentice and employer via Zoom/other approved method in the workplace and set supported targets for work evidence to be compiled into a portfolio. This is submitted at the end of the apprenticeship as part of the end-point assessment.
