How to apply to study at Nescot.
Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people aged 16 or above, looking for on the job training and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace.
Whilst your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your Apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess the relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and learn.
Employers will look for candidates who:
If you do not have an employer to support your apprenticeship the college will support you to find an employer through our dedicated employer support team.
You will also need to have achieved GCSEs at 2 or above (or comparable qualification) in English and Maths. Please note, you will also be required to undertake an initial assessment to assess your current level of English and Maths and any learning support needs. Your interviewer will discuss with you what the minimum level you will need to achieve at initial assessment.
On successful completion of this Apprenticeship you will be well prepared to continue your career development in the hair industry
Apprenticeships are fully funded for those aged 16 – 18 years. There is an annual employer contribution for those aged 19+.
An Apprenticeship in Hairdressing will develop your employability skills and give you valuable experience of a variety of routine hairdressing related activities. You will be working in a salon environment where your duties could encompass many areas of hairdressing such as, communicating with colleagues and clients, dealing with customer enquiries, carrying out numerous practical hairdressing tasks etc. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.
Where possible staff from the College Apprenticeship Team will help you find an employer and place of work (although students who are already employed are welcome to apply if sponsored by their employer). Your offer of Apprenticeship training will be dependent on work places being available.
To gain the full apprenticeship you will work towards the following qualifications: Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF), Functional Skills qualification in English, and Functional Skills qualification in mathematics
The qualification is work-related and will relate specifically to your job role.
Units include:
The duration of the programme is 24 months, plus an average of 3-6 months for the End Point Assessment.
