The Combat Systems Engineering Apprenticeship is a Higher Apprenticeship comprising off-the-job training at a local college and on-the-job training across a variety of Naval Ships – Combat Systems Engineering disciplines including:
Working towards both practical and academic targets, this competency based programme takes up to four years to complete, building on your technical ability, knowledge and transferable skills.
As a Combat Systems Engineering Apprentice, you will be highly trained and closely mentored to gain skills required to work within our technical working environment. From day one you will be earning a competitive salary with yearly increases related to performance and achievement.
You will be joining our team of highly skilled and dedicated employees based primarily at New Malden or Frimley, who work in BAE's Maritime - Naval Ships business. The area of BAE Systems design and manufacture naval equipment and Combat Systems to meet our customers’ rapidly evolving needs, remaining agile to deliver on our commitments, wherever and whenever our customers need us.

Fees for 2018/19: £4,640
Apprenticeships are fully funded for those aged 16 – 18 years. There is an annual employer contribution for those aged 19+.

Whilst your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your Apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess the relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and learn.

In addition, you must be able to demonstrate a level of hands on practical aptitude and will have good team working and communication skills. Applicants will also be expected to be medically fit as deemed necessary to perform the role, be eligible to work in the UK and be able to successfully achieve security clearance.
To begin this course you must be eligible to work within England or the European Economic Area (EEC) and be employed for a minimum of 30 hours in a relevant job role and be able to attend college on a part-time basis. Your employer must commit to supporting you throughout your apprenticeship and provide on-the-job learning as well as your college based off-the-job learning.
If you do not have an employer to support your apprenticeship the college will support you to find an employer through our dedicated employer support team.
Additionally, if you have already obtained a level 4 or above qualification then you will not be eligible for apprenticeship funding. Individuals who already have a qualification at level 4 or above are only eligible for funding for a higher apprenticeship at level 5 or above.
