UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology: Film & Broadcasting

Course Summary

Our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media (Film & Broadcasting) course has been designed to reflect industry, and as such you will develop your creative, technical and organisational skills across a number of media sectors. Using industry standard software and equipment, working individually and in teams, you will complete a diverse range of projects that will stand you in good stead for either full-time employment or a route into Higher Education.

New Students

4 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including English.*

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

Progressing students

Progressing students must achieve at least a Merit in their Level 2 course to move onto a Level 3. A good reference for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality is essential.

Additional Costs:

Students will need a starter pack for £35 and a range of visits will be arranged and will cost in total for the year approximately £82.

On this UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma course, you will develop key skills in:

  • Filming – Mastering advanced camera operation, composition, and shot techniques.
  • Editing – Honing technical skills in video and audio post-production.
  • Filmmaking Fundamentals – Deepening your understanding of storytelling, directing, and production across various formats.
  • Writing Skills – Strengthening creative and technical writing for diverse media projects.
  • Teamwork – Collaborating effectively in production teams. Group work is a central component of this course!
  • Projects such as Short Films, Music Videos, Podcasts, Documentaries, Experimental Films, and TV Shows – Gaining hands-on experience in real-world, diverse creative media projects.

Throughout the course, you will also develop essential communication, literacy, and problem-solving skills that are crucial for success in the creative industries.

Teaching and Industry Experience

At NESCOT, our tutors have extensive industry experience, ensuring that your learning is practical, relevant, and industry-focused. Guest speakers from creative sectors, including filmmakers, editors, and producers, will provide valuable insight into real-world career pathways.
Other trips include exhibitions and film screenings throughout November.

We also offer international trips for our second years, with previous trips including Barcelona, Berlin and NYC.

Student Success and Progression

We encourage students to take part in competitions and work experience to develop their skills and confidence. Many students progress to higher education in creative subjects at top institutions or pursue careers in film, TV, and digital media. We also run a Level 4 in Lens Based Media and Creative Enterprise, which many of our students choose to progress onto before their university journey.

Assessment

Your progress will be assessed through coursework, with grades awarded at Pass, Merit, or Distinction.
You will be graded Pass or Fail for Units 1-7 in year 1 and Units 9-12 in year 2. The final grade will come from Unit 13, which is the Final Major Project.

Work Experience

As part of this course, you will complete up to two weeks of work experience with an external-based client within the college that simulates industry work. You will receive support throughout this project.
