This course is the ideal starting point for students who wish to study public services as you will be trained in the different disciplines required in these services.
New Students
Three GCSEs at grade 3 or above*.
*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.
Progressing Students
A Level 1 diploma, grade Merit, plus English and a good reference from your current tutor for attitude, behaviour, attendance and punctuality.
From this course you can either progress on to the Extended Diploma in Public Services or other Level 3 programmes in the college or into your chosen service providing you meet their entry requirements.

If you don't qualify for fee remission, the fees for 2025/26 will be:
£1,080 ( plus registration fee to be advised at enrolment )
Fees are for 2025/26 entry and apply to students eligible for home fee status enrolling to funded programmes. The fees quoted are subject to personal circumstances and will be confirmed at the time of your enrolment, depending on eligibility criteria. This course is the ideal starting point for students who wish to study public services as you will be trained in the different disciplines required in these services. You will learn about crime and its effects on society, community and cultural awareness as well as more physical units involving fitness testing and exercise training, plus take part in outdoor expeditions. This course is made up of both practical and assignment-based activities which makes the learning fun and interesting. Educational visits form an important part of this course and guest speakers from the different services visit us throughout the year.
The course is made up of eight units:

Work Experience is a part of this course, the hours and dates will be determined by the course tutor. Work experience can be up to a maximum of two weeks on an external placement, you are encouraged to source your own placement with support from your course tutor. Where external placements are not possible you will be expected to take part in simulated work experience organised by the college.
