NESCOT student Matthew Boddy – WorldSkills UK IT Team Squad Member

Following the success of the NESCOT Computing and Media departments in winning Gold, Silver and Bronze medals during the WorldSkills UK event at the  NEC in November, Suresh Kumar, Sage Lal and the NESCOT Computing Team would like to officially confirm that Matthew Boddy, who was the Silver Medallist in Network Security,  has obtained a place as a UK Squad Member of the WorldSkills IT team.  Matthew now has the chance to compete in a highly technical field against the best in the world from such advanced competitors as China, India, South Korea and Singapore.

Matthew will be working hard to keep his position secure by competing in one further competition in March 2013 to become a sole representative of  Team GB for WorldSkills Internationals in Germany, July 2013.   Matthew Body

Further training and mentoring will be provided by the NESCOT Computing Team and WorldSkills UK, as Matthew is up against a formidable opponent from Barnfield College. Barnfield has placed learners at international competitions on two previous occasions.

Matthew Boddy is one of our most technically gifted students who started from level 2 and has had a successful journey through to level 6 (BSc Computing). He is an IT Higher Apprentice working for Gamma (Varidion) who are a CISCO Gold partner.

Neil Camden proudly said “We are very proud of Matt’s achievement in winning Silver at the recent  UK World Skills event. It highlights the combination of technical and practical skills that he has built up at college and consolidated during his time working with us.  At Gamma Network Solutions, we provide customers with a technical managed service. To deliver this, we need skilled and professional engineers and Matt fits well in to our team.  We wish him luck in future stages and are sure he will continue to do himself, Nescot and Gamma Network Solutions proud”.

We would also like to congratulate the other students who represented NESCOT for Computing.  Christopher Twigger gained Bronze in the Cisco Network Administrator category and Alex Kingsman is in the top 9 in the country in Microsoft Network Administration.

The NESCOT  Media Department are also congratulated for  winning Gold and Bronze medals at the same event.

Suresh Kumar NESCOT College WorldSkills Co-ordinator says, “This is the first time NESCOT has achieved such an accolade and we believe this is just the beginning for many more to come.  I hope that this achievement will inspire many more learners to travel the distance and put NESCOT on the map”.
