Nescot’s Art and Digital Design students displayed a brilliantly curated exhibition of their artwork at their recent end-of-year exhibition at the college. They welcomed family, friends and college staff to view their artistic efforts at the college last month.
Students studying Art & Digital Design course Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the University of Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body qualifications at Nescot, exhibited their creations ranging from textiles and illustration to 3D concept art, sculpture and graphic design.
Sarah Morgan, Art and Digital Design lecturer at Nescot stated, “The high quality of our students’ creations at our fantastic showcase is a testament to their imaginative and artistic expressions. They have done us so proud with their achievements. To those moving on to Higher Education, we wish them all the very best in their next steps, they have great futures ahead of them! Thanks to the teaching team and everyone who played an integral role in this amazing exhibition.”
Student awards for, ‘Best 3D’, ‘Best Digital’, ‘Best Traditional’, ‘Most Commercial’ and ‘Best In Show’ creations judged by the college’s senior leadership team, were given out at the exhibition.
Best 3D: Chole Beckinsell, Level 1 UAL Diploma student, won the award for her textile cushions titled ‘Structure 2025’, depicting nature using printmaking, dyeing and embroidery.
Best Digital: George Pearson, Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma student, won the award for his creation of a sports running brand, ‘Pace 2025’, built on the belief that everyone has their own flow and rhythm.
Best Traditional: Johny Walker, Level 3 UAL Diploma student, won the award for his artistic creation, ‘From Line to Legacy 2025’, featuring a fantasy version of ancient Macedonia using sources from history, myths, artifacts and figures.
Most Commercial: Elliot Bowen, Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma student, won the award for his imaginative creation, ‘Postcards Reimagined 2025’, featuring postcards with distorted images of famous landmarks following the art style of the Surrealism movement and inspired by the artist, Victor Enrich.
Presenting the awards for Best In Show, Julie Kapsalis, Principal and CEO at Nescot, said, “Congratulations to all of the students for an amazing end-of-year exhibition, they made it very difficult to judge the awards and choose between so many wonderful pieces. I have chosen two pieces for Best In Show, well-done to George for an incredible fashion illustration piece that struck me as edgy, original and looking to the future, and to Dayana for a wonderful piece depicting equity and inclusion”
Best In Show joint winner: George Pickard, Level 3 UAL Foundation Diploma student, on his winning fashion illustration piece, ‘A Future we were Promised’, commented, “I wanted to focus on the fashion and robotics of the space era, making sure I had truly envisioned the retro futurism theme into my project, implementing the sense of nostalgia and also to give a vision of what the future could have been or could be in the following years.”
Best In Show joint winner: Dayana Romero, Level 4 UAL Foundation Diploma student, describing her winning piece, ‘De aqui, de allá y más 2025’, said, “My project explores my cultural heritage carrying the Spanish and Ecuadorian culture, it explores the feeling I've grown up with 'ni de aqui', ni de alla' (not from here, and not from there) taking a positive approach with the many opportunities and challenges I have grown up with as well as celebrating the lives of my family as immigrants.”
The Art and Digital Design end of year exhibition is a showcase of final projects in students’ areas of specialisation. This year, Level 1 based their work on the theme of ‘Structure’; Level 2 explored the theme of ‘Order and Disorder’; Level 3, Year 1 worked with the theme of ‘Civilisation’ and Year 2, Level 3 and Level 4 Foundation students identified their own themes for their respective projects.
