Our next Open Evening is on Thursday 15 May.

Abigail-Partington Moran from Nescot, is a finalist for ‘Apprentice of the Year’, for the prestigious Gatwick Diamond Business Awards 2025. Winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on 20 March.

Abi works at Nescot as Curriculum Manager for Media, Music and Computing and successfully completed her Level 5 Management Apprenticeship (CMI) with a distinction. She said, “I’m very excited to be a finalist for the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards for my work on my management apprenticeship, and my project around student behaviours.”

Through the apprenticeship, Abi has been able to put her learning into immediate practice. She does this through leading projects like the college’s new approach to trauma informed practice with a focus on delivering CPD for staff.

Abi shared, “The apprenticeship has allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge directly to real-world situations, bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical skills development. The blend of on-the-job training and academic study has opened up numerous opportunities for me to grow professionally, build new competencies, and develop a deeper understanding of my industry. The support from my assessor and manager has been invaluable.”

Julie Kapsalis, Principal and CEO, added: “We are hugely proud of Abi and grateful for the ground breaking work she is leading. Her work and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is having a significant and lasting impact in the college. She is tackling difficult and complex issues head on and providing a safe place and training to explore trauma informed practice and addressing toxic behaviours. She has used her apprenticeship to champion change not just in her department but across the college.”

The Gatwick Diamond is home to a vast range of businesses, spanning all sectors of the economy, from household names to niche companies, and from multinationals to sole traders. All Award winners will have shown innovation and inspiration in their work and demonstrated a real commitment to this world-class economic area.
