Nescot’s Hairdressing and Hair and Media Makeup students worked together on a range of creative looks themed around Halloween on Friday (October 14).

The students chose their inspiration, made mood boards and planned their work, before meeting their fellow students to discuss how to work together on their models.

“We asked the students to challenge themselves creatively, and we set them a tight timescale,” said Kathryn Stephen, Director of Faculty for Creative and Care Industries.

“The students were working in pairs on a model, as they will in the industry, so they had to plan their work carefully to make sure they were finished in time while maintaining high standards.”

Andry Waters, Beauty Team Manager, said: “The creativity our students have shown is inspiring. We’re very proud of how they embraced the theme and worked together to showcase their visions.”

Level 3 Hairdressing student Maria Khan used Angelina Jolie’s character from the 2014 fantasy film Maleficent as the inspiration for her dramatic look.

“I haven’t worked with a makeup artist before, so it was a really interesting experience,” she said. “I learnt a lot from her, and that will help me in my creative looks in the future.

“Working in with a makeup artist affects everything you do, from your timescales to which order you work in so that the final look is as good as possible. I’m happy with how our look turned out.”

Nescot offers qualifications for school leavers in Hairdressing, Beauty and Hair and Media Makeup, as well as part-time courses for adults.
