Hair and Media Makeup students enjoyed a workshop with an international makeup artist and wig stylist on Tuesday (October 19) as part of the faculty’s careers week.

Professional Hair and Makeup Artist Emma Russell gave a two-hour demonstration of creating a character from a theatrical production, which included applying and styling a wig along with hair wrapping, wig maintenance and preparation.

She talked the Level 1, 2 and 3 students through her work, offering tips on each stage and giving practical examples from the industry and her career.

In the afternoon the students worked in pairs to create looks on one another.

“The workshop was really useful for the students, and gave them some really practical examples of how the skills they learn at college are applied in real life,” said Hair and Media Makeup tutor Frankie Perren.

“When we did the practical session in the afternoon we could see how much knowledge the students had absorbed, and how it was being reflected in their practice.”
