Enrolling at Nescot in 2022: Find out what happens next here

Nescot has appointed an experienced Deputy Principal as the final step in its restructure of its top team.

Phil Briscoe, who has 20 years’ experience in Further Education, including 11 years as a Vice Principal and a further three as a Deputy Principal, joined the college yesterday (Monday).

His remit will include teaching, learning and quality across all areas of the college, and he will also be focussing on continuing to improve the customer experience for students, employers and partners.

Frances Rutter, CEO and Principal at Nescot, said: “We’ve all been really impressed by Phil’s experience and his ideas, and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Phil said: “This is an exciting time to be joining Nescot. The college has a great reputation, great staff and lots of impressive strengths already, so I’m looking forward to helping to develop it even further.

“I can’t wait to get started and meet my new colleagues across the college.”

Phil’s experience includes two years at Nottingham College, one of the UK’s biggest FE colleges, and 11 years at Barnsley College, which Ofsted rated Outstanding twice during his tenure.

He joined Nescot from South Essex College, and has also worked at City College Manchester, Keighley College and Kirklees College.

His teaching specialisms during his career have included English, Maths and ESOL, and his qualifications include a Masters in Business Administration and a Level 7 Management Diploma.

Phil describes himself as ‘collaborative, inclusive, visible and authentic’, and said he is ‘fiercely aspirational’ for students, with an ‘unrelenting focus’ on the quality of teaching and learning.

Phil’s appointment is the final step in a restructure of Nescot’s top team. George Jenkins joined the college as Chief Financial Officer in February, while Julie Kapsalis will start her post as Commercial Director over Easter.
