Our next Open Event is on Thursday 15 May.
Nescot is hoping for twin trophies at the Surrey Business Awards next week, with the college a finalist in the ‘Employer of the Year’ category, and Julie Kapsalis, CEO and Principal, a finalist for ‘Businessperson of the Year’. Nescot is also a proud sponsor of the ‘Future Talent of the Year’ award, to be presented alongside all the other categories, at a ceremony in Guildford on November 7th.
The Surrey Business Awards is the largest event of its kind and the most prestigious in the county. Finalists were meticulously chosen by a distinguished panel of judges, consisting of industry experts and influential business leaders.
The award nominations highlight that Nescot’s greatest asset is its staff, who work 365 days a year (the farm never closes!) to ensure that the 60-acre site is fully functioning and providing high quality training and facilities. Nescot is rightly proud of its work culture and its leadership, with 650 staff who support thousands of learners each year, but also have the opportunity to learn, develop and progress in their careers.
Julie Kapsalis, CEO and Principal at Nescot said “We’re delighted to be finalists for the ‘Employer of the Year’ award. As a workplace, Nescot is diverse and completely unique. No day is ever the same. In one afternoon, we could have a pair of kookaburras arrive on our farm, but also host NatWest bank’s regional team meeting and welcome the headteachers of local schools.
“The college brings a really wonderful community of people together with skills covering so many different sectors, areas and backgrounds. That, alongside our investment in wellbeing and professional development training, plus listening and responding to staff makes it a brilliant place to work. However, I think it starts with community and sharing the vision. We encourage innovation and challenge here, so ideas for change and improvement often come from our staff.”
Julie has been personally recognised as a finalist in the ‘Businessperson of the Year’ category. As well as her role at Nescot, she has been Chair of the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for the last four years and on the Board for over a decade. The role helped to oversee £275 million of investment in the region which supports infrastructure, skills, heritage and businesses. For the past three years she also served as Chair of Catalyst South - a group of six LEPs covering the South East as a direct voice to Government. Julie is also a director, trustee, advisor and mentor and already has awards under her belt for inspirational leadership, corporate social responsibility and being a community hero.
On the latest finalist recognition, Julie said “It’s a real honour to be listed amongst people I respect and admire enormously. I’m blown away by what they’ve achieved.”
Maarten Hoffmann, organiser of the Surrey Business Awards event and Managing Director of Platinum Media Group, comments: “We are thrilled with the exceptional calibre of entrants from across the county for this year’s event. The judges had an incredibly difficult task selecting the finalists and we look forward to recognising their achievements at the spectacular ceremony in November."
Winners will be unveiled at a gala dinner on November 7th at the G Live in Guildford. It promises to be an evening of celebration, networking, and recognition, attended by business leaders and guests from across Surrey.
