Our next Open Event is Tuesday 4 March

Plumbing students on Nescot’s full-time and apprenticeship courses benefitted from an amazing hands-on two-day roadshow organised by Polypipe Building Products at the college this week.

Students from all levels and abilities had the opportunity to take part in a presentation and masterclass delivered by Joe Thompson, Technical Training Manager at Polypipe Building Products. They were then split into teams and pairs and given a set brief to build a ladder frame from the kit of equipment and products supplied by Polypipe Building Products. Prizes were awarded to the winning teams and students.

Joe Thompson, Technical Training Manager at Polypipe Building Products said, “It’s been really good engaging with the plumbing students at our roadshow here at Nescot. These students are going to be out in the field using the products so it's really important for manufacturers to get into colleges and get involved in activities like this, so students can understand and see the different types of products they'll be using on a day-to-day basis.”

Dan Richards, Plumbing Curriculum Manager at Nescot commented, “A huge thank you to Polypipe Building Products and to Joe for visiting Nescot and giving our students the opportunity to take part in this fantastic roadshow. It’s been great seeing our students so engaged and showcasing their skillsets. They have all enjoyed the practical activity and got into the competitive spirit to build the best ladder frame. We are very grateful to Joe for taking the time to interact with our students and for his useful guidance and insights. Well-done to all our students and congratulations to our winners!”

Some of our Plumbing students shared their thoughts on the roadshow:

Harry said, “It’s helping me develop my skills for the workplace.”

Tyler added, “It’s a chance to practice on the job skills so I can go into the workplace knowing what I’m doing.”

Jacob one of our Level 3 apprentices said, “I think the roadshow has been really good especially for students like me. I don’t normally work on this sort of material, so it’s given me a good chance to learn about new materials, the manufacturers and how the products are used, produced and sold. It’s been great taking part.”

Students also hand the chance to find out more and apply for the PolyPlumb® Enhanced Ambassador programme aimed at the next generation of plumbing and heating installers to help get their career up and running. For more information on Polypipe Building Products visit their website.
