Nescot commended the success and achievement of over 40 students at the annual Student of the Year Awards ceremony yesterday (18.06.25). Nominated students along with their families and friends gathered in the college’s theatre to receive their well-deserved awards.

The evening commenced in Skills Park, with performances and entertainment by our Performing Arts students and delicious canapes prepared and served by our Hospitality and Catering students. This was followed by the Awards ceremony in the theatre, hosted by Julie Kapsalis, Principal and CEO and Andy Cowan, Deputy Principal for Curriculum and Quality.

The ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, Councillor Robert Leach; Chris Muller, Chair of Nescot Corporation; Nescot Governors; the college’s Assistant and Vice Principals, Heads of Schools and Tutors, and event sponsor, Morgan Hunt.

Awards and certificates were presented to students nominated by their tutors from across FE and HE subject areas for their commitment, hard-work and excellent progress during the year.

Speaking at the Awards ceremony, Julie Kapsalis said: “Congratulations to all our Student of the Year awardees. This ceremony is a celebration of our amazing students from across the wide range of subject areas, recognising their great achievements and successes at the college. We appreciate all of your dedication and resilience in maintaining high standards throughout the year.

“I hope you are all proud of what you have achieved and I am delighted that we have events like this to celebrate your achievements. I know I speak for all Nescot staff when I say how proud we are of you.”

In addition to the Student of the Year Awards, special awards were also given out to students chosen by Julie Kapsalis for their work outside of the classroom that’s aligned with the college’s values. These included, Nescot Values Awards; the Overall Principal’s Award and Tutor Award, sponsored by Morgan Hunt and new for this year, the Team of the Year Award.

Hairdressing lecturer, Lisa Charles, was also commended for winning the Silver Award for FE Lecturer of the Year at the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards. Presenting the award, Julie commented, “Today is National Thank a Teacher Day, and I’m sure you all agree with me that our whole teaching and support staff are critical to the success of our students.
