Our next Open Event is Tuesday 4 March.
This year’s WinterFest 2024 once again featured talented performances by Nescot’s Performing Arts students. The department’s annual showcase of acting, musical theatre and various performances took place over six days in November and December.
Student performances ranged from plays, musical theatre and pantomime, to a monologue competition and a jazz night, all held in the college’s own theatres and open to the public.
Leanne Bentley, Performing Arts Curriculum Standards Co-ordinator said, “We are so proud of our students. Their endless hours of practice and dedication resulted in an amazing show of talent at this year’s WinterFest. All the shows are an incredible opportunity for our students to demonstrate their skills as professional performers.”
All students work as professional theatre companies, with Levels 2 and 3 comprising Forge Theatre and university-level students working as The Nexus Ensemble.
The WinterFest schedule included - a thought-provoking play, ‘When this is Over’ about hope and the future performed by Level 2 students; a feel-good musical theatre showcase with a variety of solos, duets, group number, ballet and tap; an acting showcase featuring original and contemporary pieces of writing by Level 4 students; Dick Whittington and his Cat, a pantomime filled with innuendo and double entendre performed by Level 4 students; a monologue slam competition with contemporary and Shakespeare rounds judged by industry professionals and a fantastic jazz night with student performances accompanied by a four-piece live jazz band.
All the shows have received wonderful feedback with one attendee describing the pantomime performance as, ‘energetic and enthusiastic with a delightfully curious storyline’.
Leanne added, “We were delighted to welcome our staff and the local community to enjoy our quality theatre performances. Thank you to everyone who attended to support our students.”
Well-done to all our students who took part in our Monologue Slam competition. Congratulations to our winners:
One of the Performing Arts students expressed, “Thank you Forge Theatre for letting me do what I most enjoy.”
