How to apply to study at Nescot.

Nescot’s Foundation Learning Entry Level 3 Computing pathway students, were finalists at the Surrey FE College’s SEN Environmental competition finals hosted at Brooklands College last week.

The competition for SEN learners, focused on environmental and sustainable projects and is the final in a series of joint activities planned by the Surrey FE group colleges to highlight the value of collaboration between the educational institutions.

NESCOT, Activate Learning, East Surrey College and Brooklands College attended the finals with their winning group of SEN students and tutors to find an overall winning group.

Nescot’s team of 13 students on the Entry Level 3 Computing Pathway, represented the college at the finals following their first-place win at the LSIF Environmental competition last month, where they competed along with the college’s other foundation learning student teams.

Team ‘Nescot Sustainability Network’ included students, Aldin, Arron, Cameron, Fardeen, James, Kaito, Leo, Mark, Remi, Shaun, Simeon, Sol and Zak. They were supported by their tutor, Richard Elliot. Their clothes recycling project included a web-based Google Sites platform aimed at promoting sustainability in fast fashion and raising funds for WWF.

Slavina Kalendzhieva, Head of Foundation Learning at Nescot said, “Congratulations to our students who have made us proud. Their project and idea for reducing waste is inspirational and we are looking forward to seeing their clothes recycling website.”

All the student groups demonstrated excellent confidence and communication skills presenting their projects excellently with the support of their amazing teachers. All the projects took environmental challenges head on – recycling Christmas trees, influencing others to reduce their use of paper, recycling clothes and turning waste into jewellery.

The panels of judges from the local Rotary Clubs, listened to each presentation and asked a few questions before deciding on a final winner. The winning group was East Surrey College with their fantastic recycling project, turning waste into jewellery. Well-done to them and to everyone involved in this fantastic collaboration of colleges.

‘Surrey FE’ Colleges group comprises Activate Learning (Guildford College), Brooklands College, East Surrey College and Nescot (North East Surrey College of Technology). The group’s purpose is to collaborate and discuss new ideas and initiatives for further education.
