Travel and Tourism students welcomed a speaker from Virgin Atlantic to Nescot today (November 1), for a talk about careers.

Benjamin Newbold, a cabin service supervisor based at London Heathrow, talked about the different opportunities available, and kept students engaged with interactive activities.

He also shared his own journey, including working part-time at a supermarket and overseas as a holiday rep, and the cabin crew recruitment and training process.

Level 2 students, and those on the second year of the Level 3 qualification, asked Benjamin lots of questions and came away ‘full of enthusiasm’.

“We’re really grateful to Benjamin for coming to speak to our students,” said Curriculum and Standards Coordinator Jennifer Fasad. “They enjoyed it and were full of enthusiasm.

“Lots of our students hope to become cabin crew members one day, so it was invaluable to meet a senior member of staff, hear his experiences and ask him advice.”

Nescot offers Travel and Tourism at Level 2 and at Level 3. Students go on a wide range of trips to support their learning, from UK destinations to trips abroad, as well as welcoming expert speakers.

Students can take extra qualifications in Resort Reps, Aviation Operations on the Ground, as well as Cabin Crew, and they also do work experience placements each year to help put their skills into practice.
