Course Summary

The ITEC Level 4 qualification in Skin Peeling is an advanced professional qualification that has been developed as a result of the move towards regulating non-medical aesthetic therapies. It has been designed uniquely for level 3 qualified beauty therapists/medical experts who want to add advanced aesthetic treatments to their repertoire so that they can safely offer these to their clientele.

This qualification will provide you with a recognised qualification in preparation for industry self-regulation.

Students must hold a nationally recognised Level 3 in Beauty Therapy to enable you to do this qualification.

This is an intensive course. You will attend college for 12 weeks - week 1 and 2, 3 and the last 9 weeks (subject to change), with 4 weeks being allocated to non college weeks to work on your written assignments which are completed in your own time during the non-College weeks. The written elements of the course will require research time as well as time writing up the assignments. To successfully pass the course students must undertake case studies, written assignments must be to a pass standard, and pass a multiple choice exam and a practical exam.

The qualification will give you an insight into the science behind the treatments, the peeling agents being used and the action of the peel within the skin or the variants of client adaptations together with hands on practise. This professional qualification will require a lot of home study which includes assignments as well as the requirement for case studies done on-site, an on line multiple choice theory exam and a practical exam. Students must hold a nationally recognised Level 3 in Beauty Therapy to enable you to do this qualification. 

The VTCT (ITEC) Level 4 qualification in Skin Peeling consists of the following modules.

Principle and Practice of non-medical therapies

  • Developments of non-medical aesthetic therapies
  • The benefits and limitations of commonly available non-medical aesthetic therapies
  • Importance of professional conduct in non-medical aesthetic therapies
  • Key regulations, legislative influences and responsibilities relating to non-medical aesthetic therapies
  • Advanced contra-actions, hygiene issues and medical emergencies of specific concern to non-medical aesthetic therapies

Advanced Consultation for non-medical aesthetic therapies

  • Effective communication and professional behaviours and how these contribute to client trust
  • Methods and processes for gaining information through consultation
  • Importance of completing a thorough consultation
  • Legal requirements for completing consultation
  • Information required when completing a consultation

Advanced skin care for non-medical aesthetic therapies

  • Physiology of ageing
  • Advanced skin care assessment
  • Prepare for advanced skin assessment
  • Provide advanced skin assessment

Provide skin peeling treatments

  • Understand how to provide skin peel treatments
  • Know safety considerations when providing skin peel treatments
  • Know the relevant anatomy, physiology and pathologies for skin peeling
  • Be able to consult, plan and prepare for treatment
  • Be able to provide skin peels
