Course Summary

This qualification is designed to develop knowledge of mentoring skills and practice. The course structure gives the opportunity for the learner to also improve their own skills and develop an understanding of the techniques and knowledge required for mentoring.

This course is ideal for anyone with an interest and/or some involvement in mentoring. It is also suitable for learners prior to or in employment who wish to develop their understanding of mentoring or related subjects such as coaching, or for those in a support role, such as learning support or classroom assistants. Learners need to be aware that the third unit does require evidence of mentoring being carried out so access to a mentee is required.

This qualification is designed for learners who want to gain a deeper understanding of the role of a mentor and to develop the skills needed to become an effective mentor. There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification. This qualification is suitable for learner’s aged 18 and above.

The qualification aims to provide a sound preparation for further study and access to a range of vocational qualifications, including Level 3 Coaching and Mentoring, Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Level 3 Leadership and Management and Level 3 Project Management.

To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Award in Mentoring, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units.
