This qualification will support learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of adult care settings. Learners will complete a range of assignments and will have professional discussions with their tutor in order to meet the learning outcomes for each of the units. Some of the units will require workplace observations, so it is essential that you are currently working within an adult care setting.

To achieve the course successfully the learners must complete 24 credits from the mandatory units and 22 credits from the optional units; totalling 17 units and a minimum of 46 credits altogether.

The course will cover the following mandatory subjects:

  • Communication
  • Handling data
  • Personal development
  • Person-centred care
  • Equality, diversity & inclusion
  • Health & Safety
  • Responsibilities of the care worker
  • Duty of care
  • Safeguarding

Students can then choose two pathways for their optional units – this can be discussed with your tutor.

Assessment

The course is completed within 9 months via distance learning, College attendance is not needed to gain this qualification.

You will use online resources, complete written assignments, participate in professional discussions and be observed in the workplace; the evidence is gathered unit by unit and collectively will form your portfolio of work.
