Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools: Level 2 (Distance Learning)

Course Summary

This course has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments.

You do not need to have any formal qualifications in order to follow this course, but you will need to demonstrate commitment and motivation to work through the specially prepared distance-learning materials. Learners will need to be working or on a practical placement for the duration of the course in a learning environment (school or college), as they need to show competence in both skills and knowledge.

The qualification aims to provide a sound preparation for further study and access to a range of vocational qualifications, including Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or into the workforce.

The programme is ideal for learners who wish to gain the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed to work successfully in a school or college environment. It will be particularly valuable to those who currently work in an administrative role and wish to achieve a qualification to support their work.

The course will cover the following areas and consists of eleven units:

  • Understand schools and colleges as organisations.
  • Understand children and young people’s development.
  • Safeguarding children and young people.
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in a learning environment for children and young people
  • Maintain relationships with children and young people
  • Support the health and safety of children and young people.
  • Support positive behaviour in a learning environment for children and young people.
  • Contribute to teamwork in a learning environment.
  • Understand children and young people’s play and leisure.
  • Promote an effective learning environment.
  • Provide displays in a learning environment.


Please Note. This course does require you to have completed two other courses first. Please only apply if you have completed the following courses:

followed by…

‘Support Work in Schools and Colleges Level 2’. (click here). The units from the ‘Support Work in Schools and Colleges’ course will form part of the ‘Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools’ course.


Assessment

Candidates work through the course materials for the programme at times convenient to them, so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience. Learners should complete the course within 24 weeks.
