BSc (Hons) Applied Bioscience

Course Summary

Nescot is pleased to be delivering a Level 6 BSc (Hons) Applied Bioscience. This qualification is being co-delivered with the apprenticeship route, but this option is for those not already employed in industry.

A laboratory scientist applies specialist knowledge and broad scientific understanding to carry out a range of technical and scientific activities in their specialist discipline: Life sciences, biological sciences etc. After completing their BSc degree students will be able to apply for Pharmaceutical, NHS or Research laboratory positions.

This award is validated by The Open University.

The standard entry requirements for the programme are:

  • Students must have achieved a minimum grade C in biology or chemistry (A-level) or MMP (BTEC) or equivalent in a science related subject at level 3. T-Level graduates will also be considered at merit or above.
  • Alternately, students may have undertaken at least 12 months’ work experience in a relevant science related field (and achieved an equivalent level 3 qualification in any other field).
  • Access to HE Diploma: Applications from Access to Higher Education Diploma candidates for consideration. A typical offer may require you to obtain a proportion of Level 3 credits in relevant science subjects at merit grade or above.

Please note, you will also be required to undertake an initial assessment prior to enrolment in order to assess your current level of English and Maths. Your interviewer will discuss with you the minimum level you will need to achieve.

The course is made up of 13 modules which make up the programme of study. In the first-year students will study 3 modules. 4 modules in year 2, 3 modules in year and 3 modules in year 4 (Total 13 modules). To get BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Bioscience the student must pass 360 credits.
