The Sunny Sessions radio show focused on 1950s memories and featured Nescot which was officially opened in 1953. DJ Jon spoke to some of our Foundation Learning students on the college’s history and their experiences of studying at Nescot. Some students on the Entry 3 Computing Pathway also researched and mentioned some fun facts from the 1950s. The interview also includes a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday Nescot’ by the students.
When asked about his experience of Nescot, Louis who’s on the Entry 3 Hospitality and Catering Pathway said that learning at the college has helped him a lot. “I stared out nervous but I soon made lots of new friends. I love being here, meeting new people and the teachers. I particularly enjoy the cooking lessons with Gill and Maliha,” said Louis. He added that he was delighted to bake a cake to celebrate Nescot’s 70th anniversary.
Staff and students on the Foundations team organised and took part in various activities that included a Beetle Drive competition and quiz, birthday cake bake off competition, 1950s themed arts and film rooms and even a disco. The photo booth with a specially designed photo frame created by students proved to be very popular.
Nescot began life as Ewell County Technical College, with the first students beginning courses in September 1953 and the establishment being formally opened the following March. Explore the college’s rich history, evolution of education and community engagement on our website here.
