Course Summary

This study programme is aimed at young people who have a statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan, want to secure paid employment and need support to do so.


  • You must have a current EHCP
  • You must be aged at least 18
  • You must have a strong desire to work

You will be interviewed by the curriculum team to ascertain your suitability and commitment*.

*The College reserves the right to ask for a school reference if required.

Students on this course usually progress into work. If there is not a suitable vacancy at their work placement, they will receive support looking for paid employment or voluntary work elsewhere.

Please note:

  • Students aged 16 to 18, or those aged 16 to 24 who have a valid EHCP, and are studying Further Education courses are not charged course fees.

    Interns are placed with a host employer for up to four days per week, preparing them for sustainable paid employment by further developing the personal and professional skills needed for working life.

    Internships are unpaid and last for the full academic year and wherever possible the intern graduates into paid employment at the end of programme. Students are supported by Job Coaches in the workplace.

    Alongside the work placement, the interns follow a personalised study programme, which comprises of Work Skills and continued study of English and Maths as mandatory.

    The course comprises:

    • Up to four days a week in the work placement
    • One day a week at college, including one lesson of maths and English
    • Support from an SEN Job Coach.

    We encourage students to show their commitment to working by having good attendance.
