Course Overview

This course ensures that you are up to date with the latest industry regulation on wiring and the safe installation of electrical equipment and systems. It covers the 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, which came into force in July 2018 and includes the April 2026 Amendment 4 (2026) to BS7671:2018.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is primarily aimed at practicing electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals e.g. surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IET Wiring Regulations.

It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). This qualification is approved for candidates aged 16 or above.

What the course covers

This qualification is primarily aimed at practicing electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals e.g. surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IET Wiring Regulations.

What does the qualification cover?

The IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) are the definitive standards for the electrical industry in respect of safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. They set requirements and operating criteria for the UK and correspond to EC standards and are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS 7671). It is intended to ensure that individuals are conversant with the format, content and application of the Requirements for Electrical Installations.

18th Edition Amendment 4 (2026): BS 7671 Update Coming April 2026

Amendment 4 to BS 7671 will be released on 15 April 2026, bringing one of the most significant updates to the Wiring Regulations in recent years. Here’s what you need to know to stay compliant and prepared.

Official Release Confirmed for April 2026

The IET and BSI have now formally approved Amendment 4 (2026) to BS 7671:2018. The updated regulations will be published on 15 April 2026, introducing new requirements designed to reflect advancing technologies and modern installation practices across the UK.

Once released, Amendment 4 can be used immediately. The current standard ‚î BS 7671:2018 + A2:2022 + A3:2024 ‚î will be withdrawn six months later.

What’s New in Amendment 4?

Amendment 4 introduces several major changes, including:

  • A brand‚ënew chapter on stationary secondary battery installations
  • Updated requirements for functional earthing and equipotential bonding relating to ICT systems
  • A dedicated section on Power over Ethernet (PoE)
  • A complete overhaul of Section 710 covering medical locations
  • Full integration of Amendment 3:2024 into the main Wiring Regulations
  • Further alignment with CENELEC and IEC standards


Assessment

Candidates have to successfully complete the multiple choice online exam (60 questions, duration 2 hours). Pass mark 60%, online exam re-sit fee (if required) = £60
